Before returning the Apple Mac Mini with Apple M1 Chip (8GB RAM, 256GB SSD Storage) to exchange for Apple Mac Mini with Apple M1 Chip (8GB RAM, 512GB SSD Storage), I had to reset it to factory settings. While it turned out to be a simple process, I didn't know exactly how to go about it initially since I was using a USB Windows keyboard. Here's what I had to do restore it to factory settings:
- shutdown the system
- while simulatenouly pressing and holding Windows key + R key on windows keyboard, press and hold the Power button on Mac Mini until MacOS utilities dialog appears. Let go off the keys and power button now
- Erase (i.e.) format the disk using Disk Utility option from MacOS utilities dialog. Exit Disk Utility once formating is completed.
- choose Install MacOS option from the MacOS utilities dialog and follow the prompts. Installation may take over an hour.
