Reset Mac Mini to Factory Settings using Windows Keyboard

Before returning the Apple Mac Mini with Apple M1 Chip (8GB RAM, 256GB SSD Storage) to exchange for Apple Mac Mini with Apple M1 Chip (8GB RAM, 512GB SSD Storage) , I had to reset it to factory settings. While it turned out to be a simple process, I didn't know exactly how to go about it initially since I was using a USB Windows keyboard. Here's what I had to do restore it to factory settings: shutdown the system while simulatenouly pressing and holding Windows key + R key on windows keyboard, press and hold the Power button on Mac Mini until MacOS utilities dialog appears. Let go off the keys and power button now Erase (i.e.) format the disk using Disk Utility option from MacOS utilities dialog. Exit Disk Utility once formating is completed. choose Install MacOS option from the MacOS utilities dialog and follow the prompts. Installation may take over an hour. Upgrading older Mac mini

Shot this with Nikon 50mm f/1.8D lens on a Nikon D200 before I opened up this late 2012 Mac mini to replace the HDD with a SATA SSD. I also replaced the 2 x 2GB memory modules with 2 x 8GB modules. The upgrades did not make it as fast or powerful as my 2020 Mac mini (with m1 chip) but this old one not only continues to look like new but now also performs so much better than it has before. This could be my fastest ever 2012 Mac mini! Mac mini (2012) : No tools necessary to replace memory modules. To replace HDD with an SSD, however, tools are required. Mac mini (2014) : Memory module is not user replaceable. To replace HDD with SSD or to add/replace a blade drive, tools are required.

Teaching Old PC New Speed!

If I could buy the latest / greatest PC running Windows 11, would I still ask myself: Do I really need a new machine? Can I continue using what I already have? The most likely answer: Yes. My financial situation does not allow me the luxury of that hypothetical question. But I would like my 2015 Lenovo K450e Windows PC to run a bit faster! Luckily, there are at least few options that I can explore that will get me some speed on the cheap: 1) bump up the amount of RAM on this old machine 2) migrate booting from HD to an SSD, and 3) move data on HD storage to an SSD storage. Since my PC is maxed out at 32 GB RAM, 1) above is no longer an option. 2) above can be achieved either through SATA SSD or NVME SSD, depending on the vintage of PC's motherboard. Mine was made around 2014 and does not allow booting from an NVME SSD. So I chose a smaller PNY CS900 480 GB SATA SSD just for booting Windows from. I am using this small drive only for OS and applications. This drive is 2x-3x faster...
